When the show started I was running around naked in my room in excitement that another show from the author of "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" was going to show. I looove, or rather I ABSOLUTELY ADORE "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" and with "The Moon that Embraces the Sun" I was anticipating a new enormous hit, however...
it bores me...somehow nothing is happening, they just keep going around in circles around a pretty boring subject and the chemistry of the main cast is void.
or should I say the chemistry of the main ADULT cast is void while the YOUNG cast was absolutely BRILLIANT! I keep waiting for the flashbacks to them since they are the only thing that keeps me watching.
Jeo Jin Gu (Hwon) blows my socks off - he is so charming that I have added him to "Inappropriate Younger Crush" and his acting is making me ecstatic.
while
Kim Soo Hyun leaves me bland, he is a good actor but he just doesn't measure up to his younger version.
Kim Yoo Jung (Yeon U) is incredible, sweet and cute yet deep and profound. Fantastic acting and her chemistry with Jin Gu is mind blowing.
For the first time I am shipping a non M/M couple!
while
Kim Yoo Jung is just a sad excuse. Just like Frodo in "Lord of the Rings", she only has ONE expression: huge eyes with tears in and frozen mimicry. Also her chemistry with Soo Hyun is so devoid of feeling that I was actually cringing at their more intimate scenes.
Lee Min Ho (Yang Myeung) is incredible as an actor and such a cutie and he really pulled off the cast away prince that still loved his little brother
while
Jung Il Woo should have sticked to "Return of Iljimae" where his melancholia actually did the trick, for I jsut find him spoilt and disagreable (O'boy am I gonna get a lot of flame for this one from all the Il Woo fans...)
Lee Won Gun (Un) was an eye opener (literally, he has gorgeous eyes) pulling off the proud loner without feeling unsocial
while
Song Jae Rim is just a whipped puppy (although he is growing on me a little...)
Siwon (Yeom) isn't really my cup of tea but he really gave a full dimension to his character that his grown counterpart Song Jae Hee seems to have dropped somewhere. Am I also the only one that feels that his relationship with his princess-bride is bordering on inappropriate since he looks like he is at least 30 while she looks (and acts) like 14?
Also, I am going to add that the entire young cast are sooo much more gorgeous than the adults - especially adult Yeom is beyond my understanding...wasn't he suppose to be the most gorgeous guy ever?
Anyway, in addition to this the story is sooooo boring that I find myself doing fast forward sometimes just to skip the entire crying scenes that seems to last for hours...
Couldn't they just have stuck fake beards on the young ones and pretended they had grown? and give me some bromance, please...
Now I don't know what to do. lol
ReplyDeleteSome people recommended me "The Moon that Embraces the Sun" coz I was (actually I'm still) unsatisfied with Boys Before Flowers.
I'm really considering not to watch this saeguk drama now.
I don't wanna force myself to finish watching a drama just for the sake of finishing it.
Hey, Don't listen too much to me. I always think you should make your own opinions and I would definitely recommend it for the first 6 episodes - outstandingly good, of course that is the young cast. And I don't think there is a law saying that you can't stop halfway...I have done it many times...
DeleteUnfortunately I have myself gotten stuck in finishing for just finishing right now - it was my own stubborness because I hoped it would get better and now I have gotten too far not to finish... :P
Otherwise I can recommend Iljimae, the Lee Jun Ki version - I love this one even though there is no bromance in it :P
Thanks for the rec. I'll check out Iljimae.
DeleteI know I should just stop watching the dramas I don't like but same as you my stubborness doesn't let me. I'm glad BBF was the first and I hope the last drama I watched just for the sake of finishing it.
YES!!!! someone agrees I actually am finding the moon that embraces the sun boring ep 13 was a little better and ep 14 was a bit better but all the eps I watched was boring the little kids were much better I really loved young yeon un she was so cute she had this charm to her and played such a mature strong-willed character admitting to you I am quite surprised loads of people are obsessed with the show I'm a bit so and so with the show I just want more un and seol scenes the actress that plays adult princess is actually like 22 but she looks 12 lol @anaapenas I suggest just give it a go it's all up for opinions I'm just not finding it that interesting but interesting enough to continue also I'm a bit like you when it comes to finishing shows I usually want to finish them like with the kdrama the musical it was so boring that I'm surprised I finished it first kdrama I didn't like usually I try to finish the drama no matter how boring but it depends though how bad it is like I saw the first two or three eps of a japanese anime called school days it was just far too perverted that I just couldn't handle I can't remember if it was boring or not but apparently it has a really f***ed up ending lol so quite glad I didn't finish lol,,,,, ta-meaut if you like bromance you could try shut up flower boy band I started it last friday and loved it I'm not shipping and slash couples though but there's enough bromance for you to ship a slash couple,,, actually no rephrase that there is one couple that I have shipped awesome bromance is ha jin and kyung jung lol but all the rest I shipped with girls lol
ReplyDeleteHahaha, great you agree...I have been eyeing "Flower Boy Band" but I am waiting for more episodes - I absoultey hate hanging every week for new episodes, so I wait until most are out and then I watch...
Deleteyh that's true the couples are so cute the boy/girl I have practically shipped all the boy/girl relationships but since I know you love bromance much more that romance (I am a hopeless romantic hehe) there is enough bromance for you to OTP ship a slash couple HAHA the show is only having 16 eps
ReplyDeleteI wonder why it's so popular in Korea and gets such high ratings..it was a gripping drama at some points but now I'm just praying it'd end faster. Maybe the characterizations are getting repetitive and I'm getting tired of the whiny, weak adult characters..
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the child actors are better than the adults and I'm replaying the first 6 eps just to get glances of them. I even watch the shows they starred in though they only come out like 3-4 eps. It's totally worth it.
yh I agree with you anonymous@ I am surprised my self why so many people love this drama I want it to end quicker too
DeleteI think we are all agreeing here with you!
DeleteOh no, I was planning to go into this after I finished 'Dream High' (the first one, not the second) because I absolutely love Kim Soo Hyun's acting -- but it seems it's not all it's cracked up to be in this drama series? I'll have to find some alternative watching then...
ReplyDelete(Btw I'm about 60% through 'Dream High' now and I feel that the second one was better...)
DeleteHaha, oh, please don't mind me - I am fully aware that not everyone agrees with me and I always think you should amek up your own mind - besides the 6 first episodes are super-great, so they are well worth watching.
DeletePlease watch what you like and make your own opinion - then you can come back here and tell me if I was right or not ;) !
